Well, it has happened again. For the third time in less than a year, Cape Breton Island has been voted best island in the world! Travel and Leisure magazine gave the rating based on criteria such as scenery, culture and history. With the scenic Cabot Trail (which has been voted most scenic drive in North America), the Fortress of Louisbourg (which is a full-scale replica of an 18th century French fortress), and a culture that is a mix of French, Scottish and Micmac, Cape Breton certainly meets all the criteria required to receive this coveted title!
It seems people the world over are finally starting to take notice of this tiny island situated just off the East Coast of Mainland Nova Scotia. But locals and many tourists who have visited the island in the past have known all along what the island has to offer. The island welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists every year and with this newly released information, those numbers will surely go up with many North Americans on a tight travel budget following the recent economic crisis realizing that they don’t need to travel south to the Caribbean to vacation in an Island Paradise. I guess this means I will no longer have my favorite beach all to myself anymore!
