Lisbon, Portugal - A Global City All its Own!

Portugal is one of the most visited countries in Europe. In fact, it ranks in the top twenty most visited countries in the world. Located in south-western Europe on what is known as the Iberian Peninsula, there are so many reasons to visit this amazing country. Millions of people from all over the world visit each year to experience the unique culture, indulge in delicious food and drink, admire the beautiful scenery, learn more about Portugal’s intriguing history and relax on the beautiful beaches that dot the coastline while enjoying the Mediterranean climate that allows for great weather most of the year. They also come to visit the global city of Lisbon which is the largest and most visited city in the country.

Start your Lisbon city tour at historical Avenida da Liberdade and see many statues and monuments and admire the Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Baroque architecture. Visit world-renowned museums such as the National Museum of ancient art, Museum of Portuguese Tile Mosaics, National Museum of Costume and Fashion and the City Museum. Explore Lisbon Castle which also happens to be perched atop a hill where there are panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. Spend a few hours at The Oceanarium where a number of sea creatures swim in beautiful state-of-the-art surroundings. Take a ride on the famed and historical Tram 28 and see many old neighborhoods and popular landmarks. When evening comes, start it of with a meal and some drinks at one of Lisbon’s great restaurants and than top of a great night in the city with a visit to Bairro Alto. This neighborhood is known for being the cultural center of Lisbon and at night that culture takes the form of music, dance and drink.

Lisbon is also known for having many great hotels, resorts and hostels. It doesn’t matter what kind of budget you are traveling on, there is a place to suit the needs of every traveler to the city from the luxury traveler to the budget traveler. One property that stands out from the rest when it comes to comfortable, safe, quiet, clean and stylish budget accommodations is the
Shiado Hostel located in the Chiado area of the city. The hostel offers nine rooms in total. There are two private rooms each with a double bed while the other rooms are shared.

One of the best things about this quaint little place is it was almost entirely decorated by local artists. Other amenities include free internet access with wi-fi connection, complimentary tea and coffee throughout the entire day and night, free (and delicious!) breakfast, kitchen facilities, laundry service, security lockers to safely store valuables and complementary city walking tours. There is a yoga school, post office and several restaurants and bars nearby and Shiado Hostel is also located in close proximity to many of the popular attractions in Lisbon.
